Saving the Earth

If I was to be a superhero for a day and would be able to choose only three superpowers to use, it would be:

- Shape Shifting, because I could help different kinds of animals and creatures that will maybe need help and I could do that by shape shifting into what ever creature that needs saving because maybe other creatures are only comfortable with their own kind and they're might be to shy sometimes so it would be better to use shape shifting while saving animals and other creatures.

- Invisibility, because other people sometimes choose to do bad things like stealing or robbing and I could help that from stopping by using my invisibility and if someone would go and steal or rob something I would go to the person that stole something and get the thing they stole and give it back to the owner and I would all do that using my invisibility, but I would also report that person that stole it.

- Mind Reading, linking to invisibility, other people choose to say bad things or do bad actions but being able to read other peoples mind, I could use that and help others to be a better person. Example, if an old lady is sitting next to a bridge with no food and their homeless and your not allowed to sit next to the bridge because its against the law. Instead of someone thinking of kicking her out, I would be able to read that person's mind and go to them and tell them, it would be better to help her, but if they would not agree, I would tell them what they have but she doesn't have that they have and they will realise that she actually needs help.

These are the three superpowers that I would like to have to use to be a superhero for a day.

Market Day Reflcetion

On Market day, lots of people came and visited our school. Different classes were crowded and our class didn’t sold that much but people were still coming and buying our waffles, spiders, playing with the wet sponges, doing the pie face, selling the briquettes and me and Siale went around the school asking people if they would like to have a guest on how many lollies are there in Mrs Lee's jar. Lots of people guest and only two people got the closest number. The winner was announced at 3 pm and he wasn't there so on Monday Mrs Lee gave it to him during Prayer Assembly.


While doing the wet sponges, Tyler and Carlos and Max are the people that are doing the wet sponges but they were not the one that was getting wet, it was Owen and Seden our kiwi can leaders.

It was quite hot and as you could see in the picture that the clouds is kind a grey and it was very windy.

There was only two photos taken of our class but we were busy. While me and Siale was going around and asking people if they would like to guess, others were just going around and looking at what other classes have planned while others from our class stayed and kept on helping. 
At the end there wasn't much left like there was only few briquettes left, few waffles and spiders and few other things.

On Monday morning we added all of the money we made and took away the money we spent to sell the spiders and waffles and etc,) We were quite shocked that we didn't actually spend that much but we were still happy that it might still be enough for us to spend on fun day.  

Respect

This week their has been some problems between the class so we had to write down what it takes to show respect to others. Mr Norman also had to come in and talk to us about it and he did tell us if we keep on having fights or being silly, he would take our fun day of us and our Mufti day.

Then we had to write in a google doc on how we could show respect to others. After, we were introduced to this app called Biteable and its a really cool app and it is very easy to use. We had to use Biteable so that we could get us to it and copy the writing we did in the google doc about respect. After, we had to post it to our blogs and write a description on why we had to make a video about respect.

In class for reading this week, my reading group is reading a story called "And the Winner is...". It's about a boy called Chris and he was told to do the dishes and mow the lawn but he didn't. He made his friends mow the lawn for him and he even made someone else do the dishes for him. At the end of the day Chris's aunt thought that Chris did all of the work so she gave him a prize.

One of our activities this week for reading is to design a new and fun lawn mower for kids to use and here is the lawn mower that I made:

This week Emma came to our class for the last time this year to help us with the Summer Learning Journey programme. Instead of doing another activity for teaser week, we had to make a poster or something to invite others to come and join for the Summer Learning Journey programme.

Market Day Invitation

Hello,

This week, in our school we are having a Market Day and all the different classes are preparing for it too. All the classrooms has different things to sell and the money we earn is going towards our class treat and its the same for the other classes too. It starts to 2 - 4pm. You are more than welcome to come and visit our school and buy lots of things that the different classes are going to sell. We are also having a Mufti day and a gold coin donation for the Kapa Haka uniforms. Room 6 is also preparing a raffle for their Year 8 dinner because it's their last year this year.

In our class we are doing Pie face, Wet sponge, Briquettes, Waffles, Lolly jar guess and Spiders.

In our class we were separated into groups and each group we are preparing for the different things were going to sell and do. There's a group that's going to prepare for the waffles, for pie face and lots of things and I was in the Spider group which we had to all list all the different things we will need. 

As a group we also needed to decide on how much were going to sell it for and how many servings they are. After, we needed to make a list of the things we needed to buy and give the list to our teacher and maybe on Thursday or Wednesday night she'll buy it using the school money. Lastly, we needed to make a poster on what were are selling so other people know how much they are and if their going to buy it or not.

Watch This Space!

This week one of our activity's is about designing a mural on a wall in our school and making a flow chart about what to do to make done, but digitally and we are not actually designing a mural on our school wall, it's just part of our activity. In case if you don't know what a mural is, a mural is a huge piece of art, because this week we are reading a non-fiction story called Watch This Space. 
It's about this professional artist that paints a mural on a wall that is built at the side of the road so when there is an earthquake, rocks or trees or things like that won't fall and crash in the middle of the road specially when it's busy. 






Resolution For Christmas

WALT recall how Mary heard the Word of God and acted on it.

In class for RE, we are on lesson two about Mary. Yesterday we had to make an resolution for Christmas and it can be anything we want. We were able to make our own or copy a psalm or a bible verses from the Bible. I choose to do my own one because I wanted to express my self and tell you what my resolution is. 

We also learnt about how Mary responded back when the angel told her that she will have a baby boy and that he is the Son of Most High. After we were asked, what does it mean to be a disciple of Christ? and we had to write it down as our resolution for Christmas.



Free Writing - Poetry

In class for writing this term we are allowed to do any free writing or any different types of writing we could write about. Last week I posted and finished my Hansel and Gretel writing and yesterday I decided to do a poems. Mrs Lee also showed us some different kind of poems and I chose to do an acrostic and a cinquain poem.

The BFG - Character Description

Part of the school is the doing the Summer Learning Journey and this week is the Teaser Week which is we have to practice and some activities are on it for us to choose. There was also someone that came and helped us with what we had to do and her name was Emma. I'm not sure if you've met her but she is one of the people that comments on peoples blogs.There are three activities and I choose the third one about the BFG and I had to write an character description about him.

Te Wa - The Journey Of Life

WALT recognise that the ultimate goal in our journey of faith - Te Wa - is to share in the fullness of God's Tapu and to live with God forever.

In class for RE, we are learning about the Church and this week we are learning about Te Was which is The Journey of Life and one of our task is to make a list of different things in your life even if it is bad or good and to use it to make a pathway going to when you were younger until to now. 

We were also to add what we wish to achieve by the end of this year, next year or the next, next year. We had to include our home, school and God.

The True Story of Hansel and Gretel

On Friday, part of the senior school went to the Royal Ballet of Hansel and Gretel. There were other schools that went too. Teachers and kiwi can leaders also went with to watch the ballet with us. Inside was quite big and our school got to sit at the very front on the top. We were able to see the second act but not the first bit. But we did get to know what happened on the first act because we were told on what happened. We didn't get to see the full act because it will be too long for other schools and if it was to perform the whole act, it would already be home time.

On Monday after the performance, during writing we got to do some free writing about Hansel and Gretel. We were able to write about any version of Hansel and Gretel but it has to be about Hansel and Gretel. Also we were allowed to start in the beginning or end or even when Hansel and Gretel got lost in the forest and found the witch's house. We could do and write anything with our writing but it has to be about Hansel and Gretel.

This is my story about Hansel and Gretel:

The True story of Hansel and Gretel


Minutes passed and still they were asleep. Little footsteps passed the hallway as two sneaky kids opened a door that was leading to the kitchen. Creeeek…
“Shh, we musn’t be heard” Hansel whispered,
“Oh sorry, I’m just too excited”,
As Hansel and Gretel walked past by a door near the bathroom, lights suddenly flashed on their eyes. 
“Ahh, I can’t see anything”,
“What are you doing here in the middle of the night creeping?” said the stepmother,
“What is this fuss about?” said the father as he bent down to grab his slippers.
“We just needed to go to the toilet but now we're off to bed”,
“It doesn’t look like, go back to bed now!” shouted the stepmother.
Hansel and Gretel quickly went back to their rooms and was hoping tomorrow will be the day. 

The next day while Hansel was washing his face in the bathroom, Gretel was in the living room eating her food, but all of the sudden the stepmother screamed,
“AHHH, A SPIDER”,
“Ha, what’s happening, why are you screaming all of a sudden?”,
“A…. spi….der…”, 
Then Hansel came in and grab the spider and threw it outside.

At lunch time, all of them were sitting on the table looking at each other so miserable. When Gretel looked down at the table with a piece of bread on her plate, she was confused on why she only has a piece of bread on her plate.
“No food today, just pieces of bread left, so don’t be greedy and taking the other pieces of bread later and we will be only eating once a day,'' said the stepmother, 
But Gretel hated bread so she pushed the plate with the bread to the side and looked at everyone. 

After lunch the stepmother and the father stayed in the living room while Hansel and Gretel fell asleep in their rooms after the piece of bread they had.
“We need to get rid of these kids, their too much and they are so greedy when it comes to food, if you want to we could leave them in the forest since we live near the forest and we could have lots and lots of food” said the stepmother,
The father wasn’t quite sure, he loved Hansel and Gretel so much that he promised their mother that he won’t leave them but also it would be easy for him so he will only have to feed himself and the stepmother.

Meanwhile, Hansel woke up and was hungry, so he walked to the kitchen but overheard his dad and stepmom talking about them leaving Gretel and him in the forest. Hansel was so disappointed that his dad would agree about leaving them in the forest, so Hansel didn’t go and destroy their conversation he went back to his room and was thinking of a way for him and sister to not get lost in the forest. 

When it was getting dark, the father and stepmom went to sleep while Gretel sneaked into Hansel’s room to check on him. 
“Are you okay, shouldn’t you be asleep?”,
“Yes I am okay, come in and close the door”,
“Why?”,
“Just come in”,
Gretel closed the door and sat next to Hansel that was on his bed looking at a picture of him and his mum.  
“Gretel, father and our stepmom is going to abandon us and leave us in the forest”,
“Huh, what do you mean?, father won’t do such a thing, but our stepmother would, she’s very evil you know,” said Gretel,
Then Hansel started crying all of sudden,
“What’s wrong?, did I say anything bad?“,
“No it’s just I feel like I’m not a good big brother to you and to this family”,
“What? Yes you are, your the best big brother I could ever wish for, don’t say anything bad to yourself because you know it's not true”,
Gretel moved closer to Hansel and gave him a big hug and that did make Hansel feel quite better.

During the night, Hansel creeped out of his room and once again sneaked to the kitchen. Creek….
Slowly Hansel opened a cupboard with pieces of bread in it and grabbed the pieces of bread and slowly went back to bed. 

Days passed and the father and stepmother were still thinking of a way to leave Hansel and Gretel in the forest, but one day the stepmother thought of a way to leave Hansel and Gretel in the forest and it wasn’t really the best plan that she could ever think of but she was tired of Hansel and Gretel taking their food so she decided for it to happen the day after tomorrow.

The next day Gretel was sitting on her bed feeling quite sad, she was worried about Hansel and about their father and stepmom leaving both of them in the forest, but she was more worried about Hansel because she’s afraid of the plan that Hansel made a few days ago. 

As the sun sets, everyone falls asleep quite early but not Hansel and Gretel. The plan that Hansel made was not quite smart at all. Instead of him and Gretel not getting lost, he decided to run away with Gretel and with the pieces of bread so they won’t starve and go to the city and live there by themselves. Hansel was so ready to leave that he didn’t even think about Gretel. When it was getting dark, that’s when Hansel and Gretel decided to escape but the stepmom suddenly woke up so they decided to get through the back, but it would be quite rough for them because the back of their house is full of bushes of thorns, that's why they never go at the back of their house to play.

“Ouch”,
“Ouch”,
“Ouch”,
“Huh, I’m getting hurt”,
“Ouch, me too”,
“But we're almost there, just keep holding on to me”,
Hansel was at the front trying to push the thorns to the side but they were hurting to much so Hansel took Gretel and piggy back her for it to be more easier.
“Ouch”,
“Are we nearly there yet?”,
“Yup few more steps”,
“Ok”,
“Ok?, you’re so heavy and I’m the one who’s suffering”,
“Shhh, they might hear us”,
“Uhhh”,

As Hansel and Gretel reached the end, Hansel was so tired so he let go of Gretel and Gretel slammed to the ground. 
“Ouch”,
“Come on, we have a such a long journey to go”,

They were walking for a long, long time since they reached the forest. 
“Isn’t there a shortcut for us to go through but not in the forest?”said Gretel shivering,
“No, this is the only way we could go”,
As they both took a step forward, they could already feel the creepy vibes going on through the forest.

What I enjoyed during the performances was that every character was introduced and their true colours were shown during the performance.

Breakfast in the Bus

In class for reading, my reading group is reading a story called Breakfast in the Bus and it is about a boy, and his granddad and their dog called Five, lives in a house bus and their trying to figure out who stole granddad's hearing aid. Granddad thought that Five swallowed it so they checked and gave Five a x-ray to see and there was something on Five's stomach that looked like a hearing aid but when the boy went back in the house bus he found the hearing aid and it was actually on the seat of the table. But they were wondering on what was on Five's stomach if its' not the hearing aid, can you guess on what it is?

One of our group activities was to design your own inside of a house bus and include the things you would need and we could do this in a google drawing or on paper but I decided to do it on a google drawing so I could post it to the blog easily.

- New Zealand is a wonderful place where you could see the beautiful sunset and sunrise at day and night. New Zealand was also one of the first country to see the light of day every brand new day.
- In New Zealand, Maori were the first people to enter New Zealand. That’s why we use the Maori language a lot so we could respect it and welcome other people from other countries using our language.
- The European settlers and the Maori chiefs signed a treaty in 1840. It was an important agreement between the British Crown and since it was written in English, it was changed into Maori by Henry Williams who was also part of the treaty.

Stunning Facts About Dung Betles

WALT critically analyse texts.

 This week for reading we weren't given a passage or a story to read. This week instead of Mrs Lee taking groups we were given an activity and it was to be finished individually. The activity we were given was "Why isn't the world covered in poo" and I was quite confused and I thought we would be learning about dungs. But actually we were going to learn about dung beetles. There were different other activities for us to do and videos and some more facts about dung beetles.

Hidden Hotel

 WALT use paragraphs in our writing.

This week for writing we are learning about narrative writing but we are able too do free writing. What we had to add in our writing is character development which is that we have to describe the characters through out the story, language features is alliteration, simile, idiom and more, problem + solutions, speech and paragraphs. Using all of these we would be able to make our writing interesting and make the reader want to read it more..

My story is very long so I tried to make it short. I also did my writing in a google doc and it nearly took 3 pages to fit my writing in.

Here is my writing:
Hidden Hotel

“Hurry up guys!” Luna shouted.
Everyone got in the van but not Penelope, she didn’t like going to field trips with just her friends, she usually goes with her parents but it was time for her to grow up. Since middle school she was always acting like a toddler, just because she was an only child she was spoiled too much. Her parents have their own company and some rumors says that they are very rich but no one knows the truth except for Penelope and her parents. 

Penelope was thinking of calling her parents but before she could grab her phone, Everly grabbed her and pulled her in the van and that's when their adventure has just started.

When they arrived at their location, Ace was very confused on where they were.
“We are here,'' Luna said as she stretched her arms out.
It was struggling for her to drive that far. When everyone got out of the van they started walking towards a hotel, a very strange looking hotel. 
“Are you sure were supposed to meet the others here?” Ace asked,
“Yes. The teachers and the seniors had a long time talking about it and I have the address here on my phone,'' Luna replied.
Ace turned around and took a closer look on Luna’s phone if the address was right, she looked at the address on the mailbox outside the hotel and it was the same. They all kept walking till they got close to the hotel. Penelope had strange looking grin on her face that looked like she didn’t want to go inside. 

When they got to the front of the hotel, Everly was so excited. She loves it when she gets in strange/weird situations like last year, she caught a frog and hid it under her desk, no one noticed until the week after.

There wasn’t any door handle so Ace just pushed it.
“It smells like soap in here” said Everly,
“I thought it would smell like perfume in here” said Penelope,
“Well we just got to deal with it, now where is the rest of the school?” asked Ace,
“Maybe they’re late” answered Everly.
“Yah right, but where are the people that work here,” said Luna, suddenly a voice that sound like an old lady came,
“Who dares to come and trespass in my house!” shouted the voice coming from the counter of the hotel.
“AHHHHHHHH!” shouted everyone.
They all tried to run out of the hotel but the doors closed itself, instead they ran to different directions and they didn’t notice where they were going. It was like everyone was playing hide and seek, one was hiding in a big treasure chest, one was hiding in a closet in a room, one was hiding under the bed and others went into secret hideouts.

Few minutes later Ace got out of the treasure chest to check if the area was clear to run. She also tried calling the others but there was no service. So instead she decided to walk around to see if she could find them. Meanwhile, Penelope was already looking for others but little did she know she was going deeper into the hotel and had no idea on where she was going. 

While Ace was walking around looking for her friends, she heard footsteps, heavy footsteps. 
“Oh no!” Ace whispered,
“Its….its... ITS THE OLD LADY!”,
Ace quickly ran but she wasn’t looking on where she was going so she fell over but the footsteps were getting louder and closer. It even made a shadow that looked like a witch and witches are Ace’s worst nightmares. It was coming closer and closer and it was a….. Penelope.
“Penelope, you literally scared me and I was so frightened” ,
“Sorry, I didn’t know you were scared of me, I was just following you cause I thought you were running away from me”,
“No, I thought you were a witch”,
“What, do I look like one?”,
“Kind of, but anyway we need to find the others and get out of here” said Ace.
Penelope helped Ace up and they started to look for others.

In the meantime, Penelope and Ace was getting really tired so they took a little rest and sat near the end of the hallway of the hotel. Instead of going deeper, they were getting close to something. After the little rest that the two girls had, they got up again and as they were near the end of the hallway, there was a door with a doorbell on the side, Ace was wondering what it was so he went closer and was so curious. Penelope was too busy looking for food because she was starving but Ace couldn’t wait for long to get out and she is very impatient when it comes to being stuck on something. Ace lifted her hand out of her pockets and pressed the doorbell, it didn’t do anything so she stood their, few seconds later she disappeared all was left but her shoes. Penelope looked around and was very confused,
“Ace where are you?, I’m not joking, where are you”,
Penelope sat down tears on her face, she really didn’t think it was a joke so she sat there for a very long time.

Ace didn’t just disappeared, she was taken. 
“Ummm, where am I, why can’t I move my legs, Penelope where are you, this is not a joke. Hahaha, I’m laughing now, come on your scaring me”. 

Ace really didn't like it. She tried getting up but she was tied up with chains. As she looked up, she saw something horrible and it was………


As you can see I haven't quiet finished my writing yet because I think my story would be too long to read but I will try to finish the full story so you will know what will happened at the end.

The Tame of Eels of Anatoki

This week for reading, in our reading groups we are reading new passages and this week my reading group is reading about Eels. It is also about how they are tamed and what kind of eels they are. 

On our reading class site, in each group there is an activity and one of the activities I had to do was to design a new habitat for eels and so that humans can play and feed them if they want to. We could also do it on paper or in our device but it was our decision.

Character Description

WALT use graphic organisers to plan our writing.

In class, for writing , we have been using some graphic organisers to plan our writing. It is because, when we are writing we know what to write on the story we are writing and we would be able to manged to type or write quickly.
A graphic organiser is where you plan your writing or a story that you are going to write.

The graphic organiser we used is kind a shaped as a burger but on a paper, so the bun top part is where we put our introduction and for the middle part there are three toppings and that is where the paragraphs go. Each paragraph they have to be different topics but about the same story. And the bottom bun is where you put the conclusion.

In pairs we had to decide on who we are writing about and I was with Heavenly, and we decided to do Plankton from SpongeBob Square Pants. We were also told to have a word bank next to our graphic organiser and write about ten words that describes him.

Here is my Writing:
Plankton

You will never, ever, meet a little creature under the blue sea that can actually talk and can make its own robot and even name it. If you have a secret formula, keep it away from the creature, Plankton.

Plankton is a horrible, evil, cheeky and little creature that lives under the salty, blue sea. He is also known as a thief for trying to steal the secret formula from the krusty krabs restaurant to make his own rusty, old restaurant take over krusty krabs. Every time he fails, he wants to keep trying so he could get his revenge and take over krusty krabs, but every time he tries, the owners of krusty krabs has its own way to keep the secret formula away from Plankton.

The mysterious, sneaky, paltry creature is shaped like a bean (but not curved), has only one eye but a very excellent eyesight, that’s because he usually uses his telescope to spy on things. He can be really insignificant but brainy. This creature has dark green skin like seaweeds that have been in the ocean for a long time. 

Every time Plankton makes an invention it crashes and goes Kaboom! But Plankton is very smart and each of his inventions he makes has a very different look and personality. If he was to make an invention to destroy krusty krabs, he would probably use fire to burn it down or he will use a big hammer to smash it.

Plankton can be very likeable sometimes but sometimes he can be very ungenerous. It would take time to get used to knowing Plankton and think of ways to describe him. Plankton is very, very artistic.

The highlight parts are were two sentences we had to add in our writing. We were also learning about alliteration, similes, onomatopoeia, and more. We had to choose two of them and write a sentences for one of them. 

Try and guess which is the simile and onomatopoeia.
