Orana Wildlife Park

 Hello everyone, 

Yesterday was very exciting. We went on a trip to Orana Park and as you know we are learning about Biodiversity and Orana Park is probably the second zoo I've been to. It was quite a long trip and after we arrived we got separated in to two groups. Room 5 and Room 6. As we were separated we had a our educator and her name was Sarah. Sarah showed us lots of interesting animals that some of us probably never saw before. She also taught us some facts about them and we even got to feed giraffes. Did you know that you can tell if an animal is a mammal if they have fur and give birth to living babies and are warm blooded?

We got to see many animals really close like gorillas and gibbons and lions and other animals. We also went to a frog house and we got to discover native frogs and ones that aren't from NZ. We also went inside this small house that was very dark but only a little light was showing and it was a place where this little kiwi named Sonic was living. Before going in we were told by Sarah that we had to be quiet because that the kiwi was shy and hides when there is a lot of noises. When we got in it was quite hard to see and spot where the kiwi was. But it didn't take too long for us to spot the kiwi. He was cute and small. Did you know that kiwis have bad eye sight and uses their whiskers to help them see in the dark? 

We also went inside the reptile house which obviously had different kinds of reptiles. Did you know all cold blooded animals hibernate through the winter?

It was a very interesting experience, especially going to the farm yard was quite fun, seeing animals walking around and pooing. :]

What is an ecosystem?

 Hey everyone, 

This term we are learning about Biodiversity and the ecosystem. We read lots of information about Biodiversity from many sites that was linked in our Senior Syndicate site. I've already posted one of the activities from our site that is about Biodiversity and now I am posting about one of the Understanding tasks. For this task we had to explain what an ecosystem is in a way people will understand. I have decided to make a poster using canva and write a brief explanation what it is and some images to show what ecosystems can look like.

Cipher Wheels

WALT...

- Identify what is a cipher wheel.

-Describe how they are used.

-Create a cipher wheel to use.

This start of the term, our school is focusing and learning about pirates. For Topic we are learnt about Cipher Wheels and how pirates used them. There were information and links for us to read so that we would know how to make and use one. Pirates would use cipher wheels to send secret messages to people and they would have to make a code for the other pirate or person to figure out what they said. The reason why pirates used cipher wheels to send messages to their crew mate or someone was because they didn't want others to know what they wrote. Pirates were also around for many years and they probably used cipher wheels for a very long time.

For the last couple of days we made a cipher wheel and wrote a code message to our buddy to figure out where we hid the treasure that was given to us and we used a crunchie bar as our treasure for our buddy to find. The cipher wheel has letters and numbers on it so that when you right the code and the sentence, you have to write the numbers down that is facing the letters in the sentence you wrote. It is kinda hard to understand but it will get kinda easier when you try and do it. I also found it quite hard to do because of all of the numbers and letters but I think I just did it wrong but today I think I learnt how to do it properly.

Chocolate Mug Cake

WALT identify the difference between a Physical and Chemical change.

This week was the first week of Term 2 and we started to do more online work since it was the start of school and there is the virus going around and we could not go outside. Instead we use hangouts to communicate with each other and our class site to see what we need to work on. We didn't have to do our work at the same time we do them at school and have morning tea or lunch at the same time we have them at school. We could choose when to do our work and today on our topic class site, there was a slideshow about Physical and Chemical changes. 

Physical change is when something is not formed into something new, for example melting an ice cube. A chemical change is when something is formed into something new, for example fireworks. There was a site where we could learn about physical and chemical change. After that we could do some experiments in the slideshow to see if its a physical or chemical change. There was four that we could choose from or even do all of them and we could make some bouncing bubbles, color changing milk, milk plastic tags or even chocolate mug cake. I chose to do the chocolate mug cake because I sometimes see people make it through social media and I badly wanted to try and make it so it was my chance and finally make it and see what it tastes like. I also got my mum to help me because I'm not really good at baking and I don't do it often. I really think that it was chemical change because it was formed into something new.

The Big Escape of The Llama

In class we have been doing lots of writing and what we did was, we made some llamas made out of pastel, crayon, dye, and black and white paint and we all made our own one. First we used pencil to draw our llama. Then we used crayon to design our background and used dye to make it colourful. After, we used black and white to colour in the body of our llama and pastel to draw a party hat or crown or flower crown on our llama's head.

After we had made our llama, it was time to do some writing, we were all able to do free writing which is doing any kind of writing you want. The topic for our writing was about our llamas. It could be about how it was made or a story to make it more fun.

There I was, coming to life and finally free from everything that my creator wanted to do to me. I leapt off the table as fast I could then…BOOP... I looked at my back... “Huh.. where is my background?” I said in confusion.

I told myself that maybe something did this to me to make me free. I looked outside. 

It was pitch black. I wondered if I was in a world that was totally weird. I tried finding a way to go outside but I didn’t know where to go, but when I looked at my back something was behind me! I could totally see a big shadow shining upon me. I was scared, terrified, but at the same time I was brave. If I crossed this huge shadow I will get out of here. As I looked up…”EEK!” Huh? Oh. It was just glass door. What a scaredy cat I am? I went closer to the huge glass door and slid myself out the door.

I tried running out but I fell under the deck. I was stuck and couldn’t see anything, it made me think that this building has a secret door under this room because I could see a little light shining on an old little door in front of me. I ran to it but it wouldn’t budge, I tried using a bark to open it and it still wouldn’t open. My beautiful imagination came and that door will have a beautiful room fill with llamas that will make friends with me. This made me really wanted to open the door, while I was looking for something to open it, I found a paper and on that paper it had letters, different kinds of letters. 

Myself tried reading it to see if it will open the door, but how would I read it if it is dark. There I tried to jump up to reach the wooden plank to help me go up and to read what the paper said. Suddenly my head had an idea and it was, if every time I jump, I would be able to see the different letters. I jumped then started to say the letters out loud each time I jumped. 

O ...P ...E ...N...D...O ...O…..R... BRRRRRRRR… the door opened. I was jumping up and down fill with happiness. I ran to the door fill with excitement. 

I woke up, feeling dizzy and couldn’t see what was happening. I was worried if something happened to me, but I was alright. I got up and a llama was right in front of me.

“Ahhh….”, I screamed,

“Who are you?”,

“Hello, my name is Bo...tt...le” said the llama,

"My name is...Lama",

“ And Bottle’s your name, right” I replied,

“Yes it is, I was n..a..m..e..d before my parents” Bottle said, twitching his head,

“I could see”.

He told me where I was and he said I was in a world full of llamas. I was really happy that I was in a world full of llamas but at the same time I was kind of worried if I would stay here forever. Because in the world I was in before, I didn’t get to meet anyone and… Suddenly a bus came by and there was no one in it. There were also no driver. I came inside of the bus and it was so loud but no llamas was in there. Suddenly, llamas appeared out of nowhere and even the bus driver appeared too. I sat on a seat in the bus but suddenly, everyone started to turn their heads and look at me. At a sudden their faces turned red and became angry. I ran out of the bus and the llamas started chasing me. Even Bottle. I couldn’t believe it. Maybe my imagination was wrong, I thought they would be really friendly, but I was wrong, so wrong.

 I opened the door and closed it immediately so the llamas wouldn’t chase me. I turned around and it was morning. I found a hole that looked like a hole. I went to it and slid myself out of the deck. Finally I found stairs to the room that I was into and got back inside of it. I went to the table I was onto before and laid on the table and was ready to be redesigned again.
