Amazing Landmarks in England

For the first thing we had to do for lesson 5 is we only had few more days till we go so we had to explore through different cities, buildings and famous landmark. Also we had to make a blog post about your favorite famous landmarks and tell about 2 facts about your favorite famous landmarks.And also we had to tell if someone is going to NZ where will they visit and why.

Big Ben - Largest clock tower in England.

-  Big Ben chimed for the first time on July 11, 1859 but it would not ring for long. That September, a crack caused it to fall silent for four years. It has since been quietened on other occasions. For seven weeks in 2007 its chimes were snuffed out so repairs could be made. It also fell silent during nine months of repairs in 1976.

- It is believed Big Ben was named after Sir Benjamin Hall, First Commissioner for Works, whose name is inscribed on the bell. Others attest that the bell was named after Ben Caunt, a champion heavyweight boxer.

Buckingham Palace
- Buckingham Palace was commissioned by King George IV way back when, though it wasn’t until Queen Victoria moved in a few years later in 1837 that the palace became the official royal residence. Since then, many monarchs have come and gone and it remains Queen Elizabeth’s home to this day.

- London was bombed heavily throughout World War Two and Buckingham Palace being the cultural landmark it was, it became a massive target. Despite being advised to leave for their own safety, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth kept calm and carried on, refusing to move home even though it was struck by nine bombs over the course of the war.

If someone would go to NZ they could visit Christchurch because it has a beautiful places to go and other people will welcome you nicely and that you can do lots of fun stuff in Christchurch in town.
